The End (Blog 10)

This post will be the last in this semester and it's the moment to assess this experience. I liked this space because I took it seriously and I wanted to get (or building) a style of using english language. Sometimes, this have meant spending more time that I would like, but I really enjoyed writing every weeks and read to my classmates. However, I agree with the motivation of express yourself, to communicate something, is the key. And somtimes finding something interesant to count was difficult to me. As I said above, I have tried to fit my coutidian way to speak into english. And I feel that I have improved my english skills, at least writing. I have reforced the use of tenses, for example when we had to write about our passed decissions and our expectations to the future. But I would prefer to receive any feedback of each two or three posts for know if the improvement that I feel is real, or if there are mistakes that I haven't already realized. I have re-read my posts...

Just enough to believe to see (Blog 9)

I don't know what I was thinking when I voted for paranormal phenomena, because I don't believe in it. But there was a time of darkness in my life when I did: when I was a child (I think that most of our post will start with our childhood) I believed that there was ghosts, angels, demons, witchcraft and god (Ok, now I'm joining any pieces of my life, in this years I went to the church with my family, my brother listened to gothic metal, my grandparents died...). But all these things appear blurred in my memory (help me psychologists mates). Thus, I going to tell you about my little story like a bad christian ( The Christian Story of Cristian ?/My name is merely because my father loved so much to his cousin named Cristian). My parents were good christians and took me to he church every saturday (because there was only one priest in the area and he can't make the ritual in all churches on sunday) but I was a very nosy boy, and I asked all the thing about the religious...

A sausage of angel and beast (Blog 8)

In this semester I have three very boring courses required of my programme, but I've really enjoyed an elective course about Contemporary Public Opinion. This course is organized by lectures prepared by a couple of students for a later debate, what is a very free way of making a course and allows us proposing topic we want talk. The main subject of course is the debate about public opinion as concept, by authors like Habermas that explain how the space to public discussions was taken for corporatives interests and even how the word to name this turned to publicity (in spanish, while in english use advertising and german use öffentlichkeit). This is Jürgen Habermas, when he was young he looked like Morrissey (comment if you think it's true or not) .  For the other hand, we debate the use of surveys to give voice to the "public opinion", above all in the electoral predictions. I like this course because it subject allows analize wide kind of problems, curr...

Pierre Bourdieu (Blog 7)

This sociologist is very famous and it is very predectible that someone admire to him. Yes, I going to talk about Pierre Bourdieu. Bourdieu was born in 1930, was the only son of a farmer family in the south of France, place where their habitants speak occitane language, this thing marked Bourdieu's thinking about the marginality, feeling the contradictions of don't belong to the dominant culture. He study Philosophy at École Normale Supérieure, a very prestigious french university, and here continued to feel a marginal. His life experience led to elaborate his Theory of Habitus, based in a practical sense with which we know the world, from our social position in the social structure and with our bodily strategies to face the life, a battlefield, managementing our capitals. For example, how the "personal" tastes are distributed in this positions and in a logic about social distinction. This is the map of tastes, from "Distinction, a so...

Chilean Rock (Blog 6)

I love music and listening to music. And this is because many musicians that have left a mark in my life. Today I talked about two of them. The first time that I liked a musician and didn't believe how I could live without to know it was when, at Viña del Mar Festival, Los Tres came back to play together. I was nine years old. I never had seen to a rock band like they, with a iconic singer, a cool bassist and a guitarist unequaled. I never had seen a contrabass neither a ... I don't know how is called this instrument yet but is like a table guitar. Since then I like chilean rock bands. Also Los Tres appeared in Los Pulentos. However, Los Tres aren't my favourite band. After they I began to listen other chileans bands and I become a fan of Los Bunkers. I think that they have anything I can asking: a bit of rock and roll, synth pop, a fusion with folk (above all in their album "La Culpa" - The Guilty ), they musicalizated poems, made covers ...

Isn't my favourite photo (Blog 5)

When I thought about a photograph to show, it only comes to my head the idea that "making a photo" instead "taking a photo", because each photograph has a dark side where the subjective of the photograper and the community that do possible the making are. This preamble is for introducing to one of the biggest making a photo that I know: The picture of the Black Hole. This picture, apart of the knowledge that we get from it in the future, has been fruit of work of many scientific communities around the world called Event Horizon Telescope. As I understand, if we wanted a homemade photo of this black hole, we would need a Earth size camera. Thus what this communities did was take pictures in many diferents places (places with a telescope) while The Earth was rotating for two years for finally to make the puzzle. The photo is so boring to see, but I like thinking if it says anything about the habitants of The Earth, or about the scientist, or rather abo...

The Handmaiden (Blog 4)

Hi everyone, today I´m going to recommend a movie I watched in Netflix a few months ago and it's called The Handmaiden. When I read The Handmaiden synopsis I didn't feel any motivation to watch it and  I projected a future boredom of two hours  (its description on Netflix was "the swindler's plan to win over the heart of an heiress and to stay with her fortune gets complicated when he fall in love with the maid he hired as his accomplice"). But after twenty minutes searching with my family I just wanted to watch anything, even a romance movie with sad koreans. And finally I was very impressed... The movie is set on a Korea occupied by Japan (in early twentieth century) and in a poor korean family that it maintain with abandoned babies selling to rich japanese. Sook-He (the youngest daughter of the family) is hired for a swindler to be Hideko's handmaiden,  an heiress of her uncle's fortune made with fake erotic books auction (that Hideko ha...
