Hi everyone, today I´m going to recommend a movie I watched in Netflix a few months ago and it's called The Handmaiden.
When I read The Handmaiden synopsis I didn't feel any motivation to watch it and I projected a future boredom of two hours (its description on Netflix was "the swindler's plan to win over the heart of an heiress and to stay with her fortune gets complicated when he fall in love with the maid he hired as his accomplice"). But after twenty minutes searching with my family I just wanted to watch anything, even a romance movie with sad koreans.
And finally I was very impressed...
The movie is set on a Korea occupied by Japan (in early twentieth century) and in a poor korean family that it maintain with abandoned babies selling to rich japanese. Sook-He (the youngest daughter of the family) is hired for a swindler to be Hideko's handmaiden, an heiress of her uncle's fortune made with fake erotic books auction (that Hideko had to must read and play for the bidders since she was a child).

Sook-He's job was to influence to Hideko for marry with the swindler. Once married, he would take Hideko to an asylum (a perfect plan). Sook-He get attached to Hideko (❤️) and receive a jewel like a gift from her. But when all know what will happen, there is plot twist: the gift was a trap to take Sook-He to the asylum instead of Hideko (馃挃). For me here begin the plot of tricks, who cheats who.

Handmaiden was directed by Park Chan Wook, who adapts virtuously the Sarah Water's "Fingersmith", set on Victorian England, and he won a BAFTA prize with The Handmaiden . A thing that I liked was the way to narrate the story, in three nonlinear episodes where the main character are Sook-He, Hideko and the swindler (we never know his real name) and from each one perspective them we get the parts of the puzzle.
I think that if you like Nolan's movies (or Tarantino's movies but without too much blood), The Handmaiden could like you.
That's all for today, if you watch (or you already watched) Handmaiden I would like to know what you think about.
PS: Netflix's synopsis about The Handmaiden is wrong, the swindler don't fall in love with anyone, he just wants the money. Love story is in another place.
