Why did I choose this programme/career? (Blog 2)

Hi everyone, today I'm going to talk about my dreams and my choice to study the sociology programme.

When I was in elementary school and I had to answer "What do you want to be when you be adult?", I didn't know what to say, likely I wanted be a Power Ranger, but I remember that once I said "I want to be chef" and I drew me with a high white chef hat. Now, I thought that I was influenced for a picture where my dad was working like chef (with a white chef hat).

After a few years, I wanted study computing, because our familiar computer needed constant repair. Finally, I received a computer as a gift and I decided care it and I left think to be a professional of computers. Actually, I'm writing this post in this computer.

In high school I dreamt with to be musician but I never thought study a music programme on academy. Also, I didn't like the management programme that I was (but this I told already in a previous blog)

In all my schoolar life I liked the history subject, but I didn't know what historians could to do, apart from doing history classes. One day private universities and institutes went to my highschool to offer programme's information and I walked looking from afar, I didn't want they sell me a beauty technical career (they said "Chile needs technicians"). Suddenly, I saw a stand empty of postulants and I went there and took a flyer that said "Sociology". When I read sociology flyer for first time I thought that that was for me. History and explications for the present (at that time, I thought that history was interesting but no so useful).

When I told to my parents that I wanted study sociology, they looked me very confused because that was the first time they heard this name too. They hoped some engineering or a clasical career like laws or medicine, even journalism. If I had said social engineering they didn't care. However they suppported me, and everytime I got trust in this proyect.

When I applied to Sociology, it was my only option. I applied to sociology for differents univerties, anyone could get out sociology of my head. And I and my parents were happy when I was acepted at univesity.

The first days at university were horrible. I felt weird, like I didn't belong there (and it can be true). I felt that nobody could understand my story. But then I met the people that are my friends now, they felt the same way that I, and we supported ourselves to didn't feel alone. Gradually I was leaving the fear to talk with my classmates that I considered "cuicos" (unpleasant and high class people). The sociology helped me to realize that I was being like I thought that "cuicos" were, I rejected to put me in their place.

About sociology programme I loved methodologies courses. Teachers of methodology are very pasionate and I really enjoy their classes.
I would like work in methodology research, studying how get the maximun profit of cualitatives and cuantitatives techniques mixed, as well as participatives techniques and others new methods that will arise.

That's all for today, goodbye!

Just enough to believe to see (Blog 9)

I don't know what I was thinking when I voted for paranormal phenomena, because I don't believe in it. But there was a time of darkness in my life when I did: when I was a child (I think that most of our post will start with our childhood) I believed that there was ghosts, angels, demons, witchcraft and god (Ok, now I'm joining any pieces of my life, in this years I went to the church with my family, my brother listened to gothic metal, my grandparents died...). But all these things appear blurred in my memory (help me psychologists mates). Thus, I going to tell you about my little story like a bad christian ( The Christian Story of Cristian ?/My name is merely because my father loved so much to his cousin named Cristian). My parents were good christians and took me to he church every saturday (because there was only one priest in the area and he can't make the ritual in all churches on sunday) but I was a very nosy boy, and I asked all the thing about the religious...

A sausage of angel and beast (Blog 8)

In this semester I have three very boring courses required of my programme, but I've really enjoyed an elective course about Contemporary Public Opinion. This course is organized by lectures prepared by a couple of students for a later debate, what is a very free way of making a course and allows us proposing topic we want talk. The main subject of course is the debate about public opinion as concept, by authors like Habermas that explain how the space to public discussions was taken for corporatives interests and even how the word to name this turned to publicity (in spanish, while in english use advertising and german use öffentlichkeit). This is Jürgen Habermas, when he was young he looked like Morrissey (comment if you think it's true or not) .  For the other hand, we debate the use of surveys to give voice to the "public opinion", above all in the electoral predictions. I like this course because it subject allows analize wide kind of problems, curr...

Isn't my favourite photo (Blog 5)

When I thought about a photograph to show, it only comes to my head the idea that "making a photo" instead "taking a photo", because each photograph has a dark side where the subjective of the photograper and the community that do possible the making are. This preamble is for introducing to one of the biggest making a photo that I know: The picture of the Black Hole. This picture, apart of the knowledge that we get from it in the future, has been fruit of work of many scientific communities around the world called Event Horizon Telescope. As I understand, if we wanted a homemade photo of this black hole, we would need a Earth size camera. Thus what this communities did was take pictures in many diferents places (places with a telescope) while The Earth was rotating for two years for finally to make the puzzle. The photo is so boring to see, but I like thinking if it says anything about the habitants of The Earth, or about the scientist, or rather abo...
